How close is the nearest camera
Half of the points sampled inside Ontario are closer to a mapped camera than 0.5 miles, and half are farther: that median is the typical distance. Nine sampled points in ten are within 0.9 miles of one.
- Ontario: typical distance0.5 miles
- Median of the 353 places measured in California0.4 miles
- Median of the 2,395 places measured nationwide0.5 miles
- Ontario: nine points in ten are within0.9 miles
Across the 353 places measured in California, the median typical distance is 0.4 miles. Across the 2,395 places measured nationwide, it is 0.5 miles. The typical distance in Ontario is longer than the California figure and level with the national one.
How much of Ontario is near one
- Within a quarter mile of a mapped camera22% of the area
- Within half a mile of a mapped camera55% of the area
Both figures are shares of the area inside the boundary of Ontario: the part that lies within 400 metres (about a quarter mile) and within 800 metres (about half a mile) of a mapped camera, wherever that camera stands. They describe distance to a pin and nothing else. In the median place measured nationwide, 46% of the area inside the boundary lies within half a mile of a mapped camera.
How far apart they stand
- Median gap
- 250 feet
- Middle half of the gaps
- 150 feet to 750 feet
- Within 200 feet of another
- 64 of 135 cameras
The gap is the straight-line distance from each mapped camera in Ontario to the nearest other one in Ontario. Half of the gaps are shorter than 250 feet, and the middle half run from 150 feet to 750 feet. In Ontario, 64 of 135 cameras stand within 200 feet (60 metres) of another, which usually means two on one pole or a group at one intersection.
Which way they point
A direction is recorded for 93% of the cameras here (126 of 135 cameras).

The most common recorded direction is southwest, with 24 cameras. Because 5 cameras carry two directions and are counted once in each, the eight counts add up to 131 directions from 126 cameras. A direction of exactly 0 is treated as not recorded, because that value is often left on a pin nobody set; that leaves out 5 cameras here.
The direction is the compass bearing a mapper noted for the camera, as it stood when they looked.
For its size

How these figures are worked out
The distance and area figures for Ontario come from 12,929 sample points, laid 100 metres apart across the area inside its boundary.
Each distance is a straight line from a sample point to the nearest mapped camera of any make, and that camera can stand outside the boundary. The counts are floors: a camera nobody has added to OpenStreetMap is not on this page, and a pin can be out of date.
Questions about this page
What does “typical distance” mean for Ontario?
It is a median, not the distance from any one address. Of the 12,929 sample points inside Ontario, half are closer to a mapped camera than 0.5 miles and half are farther. For the cameras nearest to a spot you care about, check that address itself.
Why is a camera I have seen not counted here?
Most likely nobody has added it to OpenStreetMap, which is where every pin on this site comes from. That makes each count on this page a floor: the cameras somebody has mapped, and no others. Add the camera there and it shows up here after the next refresh, which runs once a week.
Why does the title say “Flock & Other” and not just “Flock”?
Flock Safety is the recorded maker of 91% of the mapped cameras here (123 of 135 cameras). A page on this site names Flock only where that share is 60% or more, and says “other” because the rest are not recorded as Flock’s.
